A spectacular example of Finnish metalware, crafted by master metalsmith Oppi Untract in the 1950′s, in the manner of the popular work of his wife, Saara Hopea (Oppi actually taught Saara this process). The bowl measures 4 3/4″ in height, and 8 1/2″ in diameter, so it is rather large. More importantly, it’s presence is strengthened by the fact that it has such a deep foot. There are only a few faint scratches in the bottom of the bowl…other than that, there are no chips, dents, or crazing. Signed “Oppi” on center of foot. foxrunfarms store Antique 18th Century Colonial Rushlight Rush Holder Early American Lighting NR Description: 18th Century New England Rushlight Antique Rush Holder Nice Heavy Wrought Iron WorkA fine example of a typical rushlight holder dating from the mid 18th century, circa 1760-1790, most likely New England in original origin. Rushlights were used as a source of illumination for early homes by securing a burning rush reed between the jaws of the device. Often times the counterbalance arm of the piece would feature a design of some sort, (such as an acorn shape or geometric pattern) this example features a great pairing in the fact the blacksmith who made the piece formed in a candlecup, allowing the piece to burn both wax and tallow candles in addition to rush. An additional design element of this piece of particular note is the subtle ‘twist’ decoration placed in the center shaft. From age the metalwork was some slight (as expected) pitting and minor oxidation though overall the piece is in very good+ original condition. Just a splendid example of an original Colonial era 18th century Rushlight, as seen in numerous volumes on the topic of period furnishings (see: Wallace Nuttings “Furniture Treasury”, “Early Lighting” by the Rushlight Club, and “Antique Lighting in the Home Pre-1820″ by John Caspall). Stands approximately 15″ tall, an impressive piece that would look wonderful on a candlestand or tavern table. Up for auction on a period of only one week, no reserve and low starting bid. At one time the Top had writing that most likely read Monticello Whiskey. This piece has faded lettering at the top that Once Read Monticello Distillery Founded 1789. There is a lightly worn border and a few specs of white paint from a previous home or bar painting. The Sign in the painting has also been painted Gold and now reads 1789 where it may have had whisky info. We believe this bird to be by renowned bronze artist Franz Bergman, but since it is not signed we cannot be certain of the attribution. It measures approximately 3 3/4″ long from tail to beak and 4 1/8″ tall. It is so lifelike, it looks like it is ready to take flight. The paint is not perfect, as you can see from the pictures, but this is still a rare and wonderful little bird!
