~ BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN PERIOD ELGIN 14K SOLID GOLD HUNTER CASED POCKET WATCH 1897 ~ ~ BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN PERIOD ELGIN 14K SOLID GOLD HUNTER CASED POCKET WATCH DATED 1897 ~ ~ Excellent Running Condition/Freshly Serviced/Keeps Perfect Time/One of Only 2,000 Made in 1897 ~ ~ NO RESERVE/FREE SHIPPING ~ This no reserve auction is for a genuine Victorian period Elgin 14K solid gold pocket watch dated to 1897 in near mint condition. This fine rare watch is one of only 2,000 produced in 1897, making it an extremely rare pocket watch! Grade 133 Elgin pocket watches were produced from 1895 to 1898 with a total of 30 runs with 50,700 produced, but only 2,000 were made in 1897. Offered with no reserve and free shipping in the USA with insurance required, this genuine Victorian period Elgin 14K solid yellow gold pocket watch is a collector's dream! It's just been freshly cleaned, oiled and adjusted by my retired watch man with over 40 years experience. The watch case diameter is 40mm and is 12mm thick when closed. The movement diameter is 42mm, making this superb pocket watch a size 6s. This watch weighs a heavy 58.7 grams, most of which is solid 14K gold. To determine the approximate gold value in a pocket watch, you divide the total weight by 3, making the scrap value of the gold alone in this rare watch worth over $400.00! The only thing keeping this rare timepiece from being in mint condition is some minor superfine spiderlines at the outer edge of the delicate original porcelain dial. The dial is snow white with no staining and has it's original blue steel spade type hands and black Arabic numerals. It reads "ELGIN" in fine light script at the top. The rear cover has a single tiny shallow ding due to the softness of the solid 14K gold, so minor you have to hunt for it. Please see the many pictures for further detail... This Elgin size 6s pocket watch is an all original 133 grade with a high grade 15 jewel Elgin movement. The movement serial number is 7,055,221, accurately dating this rare pocket watch to 1897. The original Elgin movement is immaculate, shiny and sparkling as new with a rich, finely patterned damaskeening, gold gears and reads "7055221 15 JEWELS ELGIN NAT'L. WATCH CO. U. S. A.". It purrs like a kitten, running smoothly and quietly while keeping perfect time. What makes this watch particularly endearing is the dedication that is hand engraved in delicate script on the cuvee. It reads "Mother from Frank Aug 1898" with delicate bouquets engraved around the words. The inside of the rear cover is properly hallmarked "WARRANTED 14K U S ASSAY 29440" with a stamped wreath at the top of the cover. The inside of the cuvee is also hallmarked "14K" with matching numbers "29440", proving this watch to be all original and guaranteed to be solid 14K gold. Both front and rear covers are as thick as a gold coin and the case is also extra thick and heavy 14K solid gold. I can't stress enough the abundant amount of 14K gold used in this amazing pocket watch! The hand chased floral scrolled decoration around the thick 14K gold edges of both covers is typical of the Victorian period and beautifully highlights the case. The decoration shows light age wear to be expected of a watch from 1897. The covers have never been monogrammed, a real plus! The watch is all original including the bow & stem and is stem wind and set. It winds smoothly and runs so perfectly quiet that you can barely hear it. The watch keeps perfect time. The original glass crystal is scratch and wear-free. All covers snap tightly shut and the front cover snaps open properly when the stem is depressed. Gold is the place to be in any form as most experts are calling for $1500.00/ounce as the new floor for gold, making this a tremendous gold investment as well as a magnificent and rare example of a near-mint genuine Victorian period 14K solid gold hunter cased pocket watch by the Elgin National Watch Company! This is a must have for the serious collector of fine antique solid gold pocket watches. This fine rare Victorian period Elgin 14K gold pocket watch dated 1897 is a superb example.
